City parents around the world
When you think of NYC you think of anything goes but our interview with Sony Exec, LGBT activist Lauren Blitzer-Wright - who is also the wife of country music star Chely Wright- made us realize our cities have a long way to go. Lauren sheds some light on same sex parenting in NYC!
Citykin founders Drummond and Olly grew up together back in the Motherland #godsavethequeen. In the way that life can unexpectedly twist and turn, they are now raising their kids blocks apart in Brooklyn. Shockingly, Father’s Day is a much bigger deal in the States (love us a Hallmark holiday!) and their wives asked them to get reflective on their role as dads and all things citylife.
When we came across Ted, a Philly dad who was the primary caregiver for his twins when they were born we were just excited to meet a dad who TRULY understood the monotony, exhaustion and feelings of overwhelm that is typically only reserved for new moms on mat leave. When Ted told us about his big idea he had while hanging with his park mom crew and how that idea is now a company called Colugo that is being called the “Warby Parker of strollers” we knew we had met a Citykin after our own heart.
If Citykin had a mascot, it would be Megan Harper. You’ve ain’t seen city parenting until you follow Megan. She lives in Sunnyside, Queens with her genetic freak of a tiny human trio that may be cuter than all of our kids. She has more energy than most toddlers and we were so excited when she messaged us asking if she can profile her amazingly diverse and beautiful NYC neighborhood for the Citykin community. YES PLEASE!
It may not have the Brooklyn street cache as a Williamsburg, DUMBO or Cobble Hill…but if you’re not hanging in Prospect Heights then you are missing out on life. One of the coolest and nicest (COOL TO BE KIND PEOPLE!) city moms we know who is our unofficial but official Prospect Heights expert gives the ultimate lowdown on her little slice of Brooklyn heaven. You are welcome!
Jay-Z grew up in Bed-Stuy. So basically that’s all you need to know about this Brooklyn Neighborhood. It has more street cred than all the cool areas in the universe. #fact. Citykin’s resident Bed-Stuy expert Liz Anthony gave us the insider scoop on what to do with your family in this diverse, bustling slice of Brooklyn.
